I had an EXCELLENT question come in from my friend (and fellow Disney enthusiast) Kelly. She writes:
"Ok, that post made me think of another post you could do (because I've been asked my opinion on this a lot recently) How old should your child be before when you take them to WDW? Obviously there is something for everyone there, but to get the most out of your money - and save your sanity - what age is good for your kids first trip? (also, I realize that this age might be different for someone who is a Florida resident and may only have to pay for park entry rather than the cost of a whole vacation - or for a sibling of older child.)"
This is a fantastic question! While there isn't a real "set" answer, this a question parents of all ages and stages wonder about.
There are 2 factors that really play into this. The first is maturity and the second is the actual height of your child.
You know your child better than anyone else. Do you think your child will be able to handle the large crowds, long lines and long days? Yes, there are tips to easing the stress for your little one, but remember that there WILL be meltdowns. If you don't think your child will be able to rebound from one relatively quickly, then perhaps waiting a bit is your best bet. On the other hand, if your child can handle a good cry, take a nap and be ready to go back in a few hours, then you'll probably be set for a Disney vacation!
Height is another major factor. Below is the complete list of height requirements for the rides at Disney. Nothing can hurt your little one more than wanting to go on the Tea Cups but not being tall enough to ride.
While it wasn't a direct answer, I hope this post was helpful. Regardless of age, the most important thing to do is plan ahead. Make sure your family stays hydrated, rests frequently, and take advantage of shade as much as possible. In doing this, you'll be sure to have a great time with minimal interruptions-regardless of age!
