Marie Claire and the Fatties.

For those of you who haven't gotten to read the insightful and interesting article posted by Marie Claire blogger Maura Kelly, you can find it here.

After you've finished I hope you'll join me in saying "what the hell was that all about!?"

I'm seriously peeved. Not only was the article's content absolutely ludicrous and insensitive, but I'm absolutely shocked that Marie Claire would allow such a thing to be published in the first place.

For those who don't know me, I'm what I like to consider "pleasantly plump." I don't think I'm too fat, but I'm no size 2 either. As someone who battled bulimia for a number of years, I'm saddened to see that my years of being concerned about my appearance weren't too far off. On top of it all, I'm pretty disgusted that someone within the Marie Claire hierarchy presumably read the article and said "Sounds great! Post away!"

I understand that blogs are used to express the ideas and thoughts of the individual writing and not necessarily those of the company hosting it. I certainly wouldn't hold blogger accountable for my writing. However, Marie Claire IS standing behind Ms. Kelly's comments. You can read their statement here.

So I ask you, is this something you condone? Do you agree with Marie Claire's disregard for the literally thousands of people who have responded asking for the article to be taken down or amended? Do you believe Ms. Kelly's "apology"?

I don't. I for one will never be purchasing a copy of this magazine. To each their own. As for this "plump" girl, I think I hear a bowl of vanilla ice cream calling my name...
